EMPOWERING LIVING CULTURES
ONE-OF-A-KIND ETHICALLY SOURCED ADORNMENTS FROM INDIGENOUS ARTISANS
.:. BY THE wisdom keepers of the mountains .:.
We are working fair trade with artisans and indigenous families including the Embera Chami and Kamentsa Tribes of Colombia who tell their stories through their weaving.
Indigenous cultures today are threatened with extinction in many parts of the world. Part of our mission is to support these groups to preserve their cosmovision, art, music and culture. The Emberá-Chamí are one of the many tribes we work with, indigenous people from Colombia who pass their ancestral knowledge and stories through traditional weaving techniques. As part of their traditional attire, the Emberá create hand crafted jewelry with small colored glass beads. Some pieces take up to 30 days to create, with each piece telling a story about humanity's relationship with Nature and the tribe's Cosmology.
Whether it be a necklace (okama) or an earring, each of these pieces speak to the journey of life and serve to to protect the woman's heart, empower her and to highlight her beauty.
Handcrafts are one of the main resources of survival for the Emberá-Chamí. Buying one of these pieces directly supports artisans of light and we hope it inspires creativity and connection to this wild, colorful and beautiful planet.
We are also proud to be supporting KAALÁN NEÉK ~ Guardian of the Seeds project by our dear sister, Kiahuitl, focusing on a womens collective based in the Yucatan, conserving and reproducing ancestral and heirloom seeds. To learn more about this project, click here.
